Serbia showcased the M-84AC3 tank, a modernized version of the M-84, now equipped with an active protection system (APS), possibly of Israeli origin, during a military parade.

The photos published by the AviaKurs channel and confirmed by the Serbian Ministry of Defense show visible changes compared to the previous model, such as the inclusion of the APS, which resembles the Iron Fist system by Israeli Elbit Systems, as well as extended side protection covering the entire hull.

The M-84AC3 reflects the continued military cooperation between Serbia and Israel, a country with which Belgrade maintains close relations, even during the Gaza conflict. Since October 2023, Serbia has also begun exporting military products to Israel, further strengthening ties beyond simple equipment acquisitions.

The original M-84, derived from the Soviet T-72M1, entered service in 1984, later being modernized into the M-84A and M-84AC2 versions. The latter introduced second-generation reactive armor, a new fire control system, modern sensors, a remotely operated weapon station, and a 125mm cannon with improved penetration capability.

The AC3 retains these upgrades and adds new features, although some details, such as changes to the turret or the automatic loader, have not been fully clarified yet.
